MJB Holistic & Therapeutic Services, LLC provides opioid use disorder (OUD) evaluation and medication-assisted treatment for Maryland, DC, and Georgia residents via secure telehealth, plus in-person care at our Upper Marlboro, MD office. Care is delivered by a board-certified PMHNP-BC. We approach OUD with the same respect we bring to every condition we treat — no judgment, no stigma.
Looking for help with opioid use in Maryland or Washington, DC? Opioid use disorder is a treatable medical condition. The combination of FDA-approved medication, behavioral support, and coordinated primary and mental health care has the strongest evidence base for helping people stabilize and rebuild.
What Is Opioid Use Disorder?
Opioid use disorder is a chronic, treatable medical condition involving the inability to control opioid use despite negative consequences. It is recognized by the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization. Opioids include prescription pain medications such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, and morphine, as well as illicit opioids including heroin and synthetic compounds such as fentanyl.
OUD is not a moral failure or a willpower problem. It involves real, measurable changes in brain chemistry, particularly in the regions involved in reward, stress, and self-regulation. These changes do not vanish on their own, which is why structured treatment matters.
Signs That You or Someone You Love May Be Struggling
You do not need to meet every criterion below to benefit from a conversation with us. If even a few of these resonate, reaching out is reasonable:
Using more, or for longer, than intended
Wanting to cut down but being unable to
Spending significant time obtaining, using, or recovering from opioids
Cravings or urges to use
Use interfering with work, school, family, or relationships
Continued use despite recurrent physical or psychological problems
Tolerance — needing more to get the same effect
Withdrawal symptoms when not using
How We Approach Opioid Use Disorder Treatment
We follow evidence-informed practice guidelines from SAMHSA and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Treatment typically combines three pillars:
Medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) — most often buprenorphine-based products, prescribed within state and federal scope-of-practice rules
Behavioral support — coordination with a therapist, peer support program, or recovery community based on what fits your life
Whole-person care — sleep, nutrition, co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety or depression, and primary medical follow-up
Medication is not 'replacing one drug with another.' MOUD stabilizes brain chemistry so the rest of recovery becomes possible. We are happy to explain how it works, what to expect, and how decisions about dose and duration are made together.
We believe in harm reduction. The goal of every visit is to keep you alive, healthier than yesterday, and one step closer to the life you want — not to enforce a particular path or timeline.
Coordinated Care
OUD recovery is rarely a one-clinician job. We routinely coordinate with:
Individual therapists (CBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, trauma-focused approaches)
Primary care providers (for hepatitis screening, infectious disease, and overall medical follow-up)
Peer support and mutual-help communities, when wanted
Family members or partners, with consent
If you do not yet have a therapist or PCP, we can help you find one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be opioid-free before my first visit?
No. Many people start treatment while still using or while in withdrawal. We will assess where you are and discuss options together. Honesty about your current use helps us help you.
Will you tell my employer or family?
Your visits are confidential under HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. We won't share information without your written consent except in situations involving imminent danger to yourself or others, as required by law.
Is buprenorphine treatment covered by insurance?
Most plans we accept cover buprenorphine-based medications and the office visits to manage them. We verify your benefits before your first visit and explain expected costs.
Can I do this entirely by telehealth?
Many people can. Federal and Maryland rules allow telehealth initiation of buprenorphine in most cases. There are situations where an in-person visit is required by law or by clinical needs — we will tell you up front if that applies to you.
What if I have a setback or relapse?
Setbacks happen and they are not the end of treatment. Reach out and come back in. We adjust the plan and keep going.
