Looking for a psychiatrist in Maryland? MJB Holistic & Therapeutic Services provides secure telehealth psychiatric care for Maryland residents — delivered by a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) fully licensed in Maryland to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe. Same-week appointments, most insurance accepted, over a decade of clinical experience.
We see patients across all of Maryland via secure telehealth — from Frostburg to Ocean City, Hagerstown to Salisbury, Baltimore to Lexington Park. As long as you're a Maryland resident at the time of your visit, we can see you.
All care at MJB Holistic is provided by Melveena Johnson-Bolden, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who, under Maryland's full-practice-authority law, can independently evaluate, diagnose, prescribe, and manage psychiatric medications. PMHNPs and psychiatrists work in similar scopes for medication management; the difference is degree path (nursing vs. medical school).
"We believe in addressing the whole patient, not the hole in the patient." — Melveena Johnson-Bolden, PMHNP-BC, Founder of MJB Holistic
Psychiatric Services Available to Maryland Patients
We provide a full range of psychiatric care, all delivered by a Maryland-licensed prescribing clinician:
Medication management — initial psychiatric evaluation, prescribing, and ongoing medication adjustments for SSRIs, SNRIs, mood stabilizers, ADHD stimulants and non-stimulants, and antipsychotics.
ADHD testing and treatment — comprehensive evaluations using validated tools (DIVA-5, Conners) for adults and adolescents, plus medication management.
Pharmacogenetic (genetic) testing — for patients who haven't responded well to multiple medications. Helps identify which drugs your body metabolizes efficiently.
Anxiety and panic disorder treatment — evidence-based medication management combined with referrals to therapy when needed.
Depression and mood disorder care — including treatment-resistant depression, postpartum depression, and seasonal affective disorder.
PTSD and trauma-informed care — medication support paired with referrals to trauma-specialized therapists.
Substance use disorder management — medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder.
What Maryland Patients Can Expect
Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Melveena Johnson-Bolden, PMHNP-BC reviews your history, current symptoms, prior medications, and goals. By the end, you'll have a treatment plan and — when appropriate — your first prescription.
Follow-up visits check medication response, adjust doses, and address any side effects. We work to meet at a frequency that works best for each client. It's common to meet every 4 weeks at the start, then every 1-3 months once stable.

Frequently Asked Questions — Maryland Patients
Is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner the same as a psychiatrist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specialized in psychiatry. A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is a registered nurse with a graduate degree (MSN or DNP) and national board certification in psychiatry. In Maryland, PMHNPs have full practice authority — meaning they can independently diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe psychiatric medications (including controlled substances), and manage treatment, just like a psychiatrist. The training paths are different, but the day-to-day clinical work for medication management is essentially the same.
Do you actually see Maryland patients, or just refer them out?
We treat Maryland patients directly. Our PMHNP-BC is licensed across all of Maryland and can see any Maryland resident via telehealth.
How quickly can I get my first appointment?
Same-day or next-day appointments are sometimes available, depending on our current schedule — telehealth slots tend to open up faster. Reach out and we'll let you know the soonest opening that fits your needs.
Do you prescribe controlled substances (ADHD stimulants, benzodiazepines)?
Yes, when clinically appropriate. ADHD stimulants are commonly prescribed after a comprehensive evaluation. Benzodiazepines are prescribed sparingly and short-term per current best-practice guidelines.
Is telehealth psychiatric care as effective as in-person?
Multiple peer-reviewed studies show telehealth psychiatry is comparable to in-person care for most conditions, including medication management, ADHD treatment, depression, and anxiety. The main difference is convenience — no commute, no waiting room.
What if I need therapy in addition to medication?
We focus on psychiatric medication management and referrals to therapists in your area. We maintain a list of trusted therapists in Maryland and surrounding regions.
