MJB Holistic provides ADHD testing and treatment to Maryland, DC, and Georgia residents via secure telehealth. In-person visits available at our Upper Marlboro, MD office; telehealth available statewide.
If focus has been a struggle your whole life — or if it suddenly feels like the demands of adult life have overwhelmed your ability to keep up — you may be living with ADHD. At MJB Holistic & Therapeutic Services in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, we evaluate, diagnose, and treat ADHD in adolescents and adults. We treat ADHD the way we treat every condition: by looking at the whole client, and not the hole in the client.
How ADHD shows up in adults
ADHD in adults often looks different from the stereotypical hyperactive child. The most common patterns we see at our Maryland practice include:
Chronic procrastination, even on tasks you genuinely care about
Difficulty starting projects, finishing them, or both
Time blindness — losing track of how long things take or when time has passed
Trouble organizing your space, your week, or your thoughts
Forgetfulness with appointments, deadlines, or things you said you would do
Restlessness, fidgeting, or a constant need for stimulation
Emotional dysregulation — quick to frustration, easily overwhelmed
Hyperfocus — getting completely absorbed in something interesting while struggling with everything else
Impulsive decisions you later regret
A sense that you've been working twice as hard as everyone else just to keep up
Many adults with ADHD have spent years assuming they're lazy, undisciplined, or broken. They aren't — they have a treatable neurological condition.
Our approach to ADHD evaluation and treatment
Melveena Johnson-Bolden, PMHNP-BC, has 28 years of nursing experience and specializes in evaluating ADHD in adults and adolescents. Our evaluation process is thorough, evidence-based, and respectful of your time.
QbCheck: objective ADHD testing
MJB Holistic offers QbCheck, an FDA-cleared, EMA-registered computer-based test that objectively measures the three core symptoms of ADHD: activity, inattention, and impulsivity. The test uses a standard webcam to track movement during a brief task. It does not record images. Results are compared to age- and gender-matched groups.
QbCheck does not diagnose ADHD on its own — diagnosis comes from a full clinical interview combined with rating scales. But it provides an objective data point that strengthens the diagnostic picture. Many patients tell us the QbCheck result is the first time they've had concrete evidence that what they're experiencing is real and measurable.

What to expect at your first visit
Your first appointment is 60 minutes and can be in-person at our Upper Marlboro office or via secure telehealth on the Spruce platform. We'll walk through your current symptoms, your history (including school years and any past evaluations), what's worked and what hasn't, and what you're hoping treatment will look like.
If a clinical interview suggests ADHD, we'll typically have you complete validated rating scales and the QbCheck test before our follow-up. Your treatment plan is built collaboratively — you make decisions about whether medication, therapy, executive-function coaching, or some combination is right for you.
Medications and pharmacogenetic testing
If medication is part of your plan, MJB Holistic offers in-house pharmacogenetic testing — a simple test that helps your provider tailor psychiatric medications to your specific body chemistry. Patients who use pharmacogenetic testing are roughly 2.5 times more likely to achieve remission, with fewer side effects and fewer trial-and-error medication switches. The test is often free for patients depending on insurance, with results in 3 to 5 business days. Learn more on our pharmacogenetic testing page at mjbholistic.com/genetic-testing.

Frequently asked questions about ADHD treatment
Can I be diagnosed with ADHD as an adult?
Yes. ADHD is a lifelong condition, but many adults are diagnosed for the first time in their 20s, 30s, 40s, or later — often after years of struggling and assuming the difficulty was a personal failure. Adult diagnosis is common and entirely valid.
Do you prescribe stimulants?
Yes, when clinically appropriate. We follow evidence-based prescribing practices. Stimulant medications (like Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, and Ritalin) are first-line treatment for ADHD per current clinical guidelines. We also prescribe non-stimulant alternatives (Strattera, Wellbutrin, Qelbree) for patients who can't take stimulants or prefer not to.
Will I need to be on medication forever?
Not necessarily. Some patients use ADHD medication long-term because it gives them their best quality of life. Others use it during high-demand periods (school, career transitions) and taper off later. The right answer depends on your specific situation and goals.
How long does the evaluation process take?
Most patients complete the full evaluation in 2 to 3 appointments over 2 to 4 weeks. The QbCheck test itself takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Do you treat ADHD in children?
Melveena treats adolescents (typically 12 and older). For younger children, we'll connect you with a pediatric specialist.
