MJB Holistic provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management for adults experiencing behavioral health concerns — anger, impulse control challenges, emotional dysregulation, or behavioral patterns that are interfering with daily life. Available to Maryland and DC residents via telehealth and in-person at our Upper Marlboro, MD office. Care is delivered by a board-certified PMHNP-BC.
If your behavior — yours, or a loved one's — has started to interfere with work, family, or daily life, a psychiatric evaluation can help sort out what is going on underneath. Behavioral concerns rarely come from nowhere. There is almost always something driving them, and naming that something is the first step toward changing it.
What "Behavioral Health Concerns" Covers
Behavioral health is a broad term. In our practice, adults come to us about concerns like:
Difficulty controlling anger or aggression
Impulse control challenges
Emotional dysregulation — feelings hitting harder, faster, or longer than seems proportionate
Difficulty stopping behaviors that are causing problems (substances, gambling, compulsive shopping, screen use, etc.)
Behavior changes that are new or worsening
Concerns family or partners have raised that you are not sure how to interpret
These are descriptions, not diagnoses. The role of an evaluation is to figure out what's underneath.
What Often Drives Behavioral Concerns
A behavioral pattern is usually a symptom, not the underlying problem. Common drivers we look for include:
Untreated ADHD — particularly the impulsivity and emotional regulation aspects
Trauma history and PTSD-related hyperarousal
Mood disorders — depression, bipolar spectrum, anxiety
Substance use, including alcohol, cannabis, and prescription medications
Sleep disorders — chronic sleep deprivation looks a lot like irritability and impulsivity
Medical conditions — thyroid, hormonal changes, neurological
Relationship and life-stress factors
Co-occurring conditions stacking on top of each other
How We Approach the Evaluation
A thorough psychiatric evaluation looks at all of the above, not just the headline complaint. We want to understand:
When the patterns started and what was going on around then
What makes them better or worse
Sleep, substance use, medical history, prior treatment
What you have already tried
What you actually want to be different
We will give you our honest read of what we are seeing and what we think might help — including non-medication options. If a referral elsewhere is the right move, we will say that.
Coordinated Care
For most behavioral concerns, the path forward involves both medication (when appropriate) and skills-based therapy — anger management, DBT, CBT, motivational approaches, depending on what fits. We work with therapists across Maryland and DC and will help you find one if you are not connected.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be labeled with a diagnosis I will have to carry?
A diagnosis is sometimes useful — it helps with insurance and treatment planning — and sometimes not. We will discuss what diagnostic language fits and how it shows up in your record before anything is finalized.
My family is making me come. Does this still help?
It can. We work with you, not your family. Your goals are what guide treatment.
Is anger a real psychiatric problem?
Anger itself isn't a diagnosis, but persistent anger that's interfering with your life is worth taking seriously. It often points to something treatable underneath.
Can medication help with anger or impulse control?
Sometimes, yes — particularly if there is underlying ADHD, mood instability, anxiety, or trauma. Medication is rarely the whole answer, but it can be part of one.
How long does a behavioral concern evaluation take?
Visit length varies. Plan on a thorough first visit, with follow-ups to refine the picture and the plan. We work to meet at a frequency that works best for each client.
