MJB Holistic provides psychiatric care that includes active care coordination for Maryland and DC residents — therapists, primary care, specialists, family members (with consent), and community resources. Available via secure telehealth and in-person at our Upper Marlboro, MD office. Care is delivered by a board-certified PMHNP-BC.

Mental health care that doesn't talk to the rest of your medical care is a setup for problems. Medications interact. Therapists and prescribers can pull in different directions if they don't know what each other is doing. Case management — the work of making sure your team is actually a team — is part of how we practice.

What Care Coordination Looks Like

Care coordination is not a separate service line at our practice — it is built into how we work. With your consent, we routinely:

• Communicate with your therapist about the treatment plan, symptom changes, and medication response
• Send and receive records between providers
• Coordinate with primary care on medications and medical conditions that affect mental health
• Help identify and connect you with specialists when you need them
• Work with case managers, peer support, or community resources you are already engaged with
• Talk with family members or partners when you want them included

Connecting You With What You Need

When you need something we do not directly provide, we help you find it. Common referrals include:

• Therapists across Maryland and DC, including specialists in DBT, EMDR, trauma-focused CBT, couples and family therapy
• Higher levels of care — partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, residential — when clinically warranted
• Substance use treatment programs
• Peer support and community resources
• Insurance and benefits navigation when coverage is the obstacle

We do not refer to providers we do not know. If we send you somewhere, it is because we have either worked with them or done due diligence about their fit for what you need.

Confidentiality

All coordination happens with your written consent. We do not share information with other providers, family members, employers, or anyone else without specific permission, except where required by law (imminent danger, abuse reporting, court orders).

About the Provider

Care is provided by Melveena Johnson-Bolden, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an advanced-practice nurse trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions, including prescribing and managing psychiatric medications, within state scope-of-practice rules.

Getting you seen quickly matters to us. We do our best to accommodate each patient's needs as soon as possible — same-day and next-day appointments are often possible, subject to availability. Call or book online and we'll find the soonest opening that works for you.

We work to meet at a frequency that works best for each client. It's common to meet every 4 weeks at the start, then every 1-3 months once stable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is case management an extra fee?

No. Care coordination is part of normal psychiatric care at MJB Holistic. There are not separate billable case-management visits in our practice; what we do is integrated into your regular appointments.

Can you help me find a therapist?

Yes. We maintain working relationships with therapists across Maryland and DC and can suggest options that fit your needs, insurance, and preferences.

Can my family talk to you?

Only with your written consent. We will discuss who you want included, in what conversations, before sharing anything.

I have a complicated medical situation. Can you coordinate with my PCP?

Yes — and we routinely do. Send us a release form and we will be in regular contact.

What if I need a level of care you do not provide?

We will help you find the right setting and stay involved as appropriate. Stepping up to a higher level of care is not "graduation" — it is part of getting the right help.
