Yes, MJB Holistic & Therapeutic Services accepts Maryland Medicaid for psychiatric care, medication management, ADHD testing, and pharmacogenetic testing across Maryland.

Maryland Medicaid is administered through several managed care organizations (MCOs). MJB Holistic accepts patients across most Maryland Medicaid MCOs — verify your specific plan with our office before scheduling.

Care is delivered by Melveena Johnson-Bolden, PMHNP-BC — a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner — via secure telehealth across Maryland and at our in-person office in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Services covered for Maryland Medicaid members

Maryland Medicaid members can use MJB Holistic for the full range of outpatient psychiatric services:

  • Initial psychiatric evaluation — comprehensive intake covering history, current symptoms, prior medications, and treatment goals.

  • Medication management — prescribing and ongoing adjustments for SSRIs, SNRIs, mood stabilizers, ADHD stimulants and non-stimulants, and antipsychotics.

  • ADHD testing and treatment — adult and adolescent ADHD evaluations using validated tools (DIVA-5, Conners), plus medication management.

  • Pharmacogenetic (genetic) testing — for patients who haven't responded well to multiple medications. Identifies which drugs your body metabolizes efficiently.

  • Treatment for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, anger management, grief and bereavement, opioid and alcohol use disorder, and other conditions.

How to verify your Maryland Medicaid benefits

Insurance benefits vary plan to plan. Before scheduling, our team will verify your specific Maryland Medicaid coverage — including your copay, deductible, and any prior authorization requirements. There are two ways to start:

Maryland telehealth psychiatric care with Maryland Medicaid

Maryland residents can see a psychiatric provider from home via secure telehealth. Telehealth visits are typically covered on the same in-network terms as in-person visits — confirm with our office for your specific plan. Patients who prefer in-person visits can come to our Upper Marlboro office.

Frequently Asked Questions — Maryland Medicaid members

Do I need a referral to see a PMHNP-BC at MJB Holistic?

Most Maryland Medicaid plans do not require a referral to see a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for outpatient mental health care. Your specific plan may differ — we'll verify before your first appointment.

Will Maryland Medicaid cover telehealth psychiatry visits?

Most Maryland Medicaid plans cover telehealth psychiatry on the same terms as in-person visits. We'll confirm your specific telehealth coverage during benefits verification.

What if my Maryland Medicaid plan isn't accepted?

If your plan turns out to be one we can't accept, we'll let you know during benefits verification — before any visit, before any charges. You can either pay out of pocket (we offer a sliding-scale option) or we can refer you to other providers in your network.

How long does benefits verification take?

Usually one to two business days. Once verified, we'll walk you through your expected costs and schedule your first appointment.

Are mental health visits confidential?

Yes. All clinical visits and records are protected by HIPAA. Insurance claims include diagnosis codes per standard medical billing — but visit content stays between you and your provider.
